Biography

Meet Jonnie Peacock

Jonnie Peacock MBE is a two-time Paralympic Champion and one of Britain’s most inspiring and recognisable athletes. Specialising in the T44 100m sprint, Jonnie first captured the world’s attention at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, where aged just 19, he stormed to gold in front of a roaring home crowd in one of the defining moments of the Games to become a symbol of Britain’s Paralympic legacy. He successfully defended his title at Rio 2016, cementing his place as a legend in para-athletics and a world star.

After contracting meningitis at the age of five, which led to the amputation of his right leg, Jonnie turned adversity into purpose and began sprinting with a prosthetic limb – not just to compete, but to redefine what was possible. Since then, he has broken barriers in sport and media, becoming a powerful advocate for inclusion and visibility of people with disabilities.

In addition to his sporting achievements, Jonnie made history as the first amputee to compete in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and has used his platform to challenge perceptions and drive meaningful conversations about disability, identity, and resilience. Speaking with honesty and wit, Jonnie captivates audiences, and his journey resonates not only with sports fans but also with everyday audiences who admire his attitude, courage, and determination as he eloquently demonstrates how to overcome obstacles, the importance of goal setting, and the realities of living – and thriving – with a disability.

In addition to going for an unprecedented 3rd Paralympic gold in LA 2028, Jonnie is committed to using his platform to shift the narrative around disability. A passionate advocate for greater visibility, equality, and investment in equal opportunities – not out of sympathy, but out of recognition for elite performance and potential, Jonnie is determined to help reshape how society sees those with disabilities.

Jonnie Peacock is not just an icon, he’s a change-maker!
