Meet Tim Shaw
Tim is probably most well-known for Car SOS and being an out and out petrol head, but what you probably didn’t know is that he spent 15 years presenting primetime speech-driven shows on nearly all of the UK’s biggest commercial radio stations. He has also won more than 14 global radio awards for comedy and interviewing as well as ‘Sony Radio Entertainment Award’. Tim admits that over 60% of all his radio wages went on rebuilding classic cars. He currently has 6 full restorations projects on the go!
Branching out, Tim turned to television nearly 20 years ago. He has hosted Channel 4’s primetime series, ‘Extreme Male Beauty’, Ch5’s motoring shows ‘Fifth Gear’, ‘The Cars That Made Britain Great’, Channel 4’s ‘Experimental’. Tim has also crossed the pond to present National Geographic’s ‘None of the Above’ aka ‘Street Genius’ as well as presenting the one-off documentary ‘Tim Shaw’s Engineering Adventure’. Last year he also presented two series of ‘The Great Model Railway Challenge’ on Channel 5.
Other than cars Tim’s main love is product design and mechanical engineering. At the age of 16 he won a Young Engineer of the Year award for inventing a collapsible rolling walking aid for the elderly. Something that went on to sell tens of millions around the world. Despite not earning a penny from his invention he says money was never the drive, the reward comes helping people improve the quality of their lives.
Tim’s most recent project has been rebuilding a house without any external help whatsoever. What a geek.
