Biography

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Scott Mann shares how to navigate the distraction, disengagement, and distrust of our modern world, make new and deeper connections, and lead through troubled times. In Afghan Villages, Mann had to build trust in five minutes or less or face catastrophic mission failure… or worse. Scott says that “what works in life and death works even better in life and business.” There is an art and science to strategic influence and Scott Mann will show your people how. He is a warrior storyteller who breaks your event wide open by casting aside the podium and PowerPoint to share emotionally charged stories on bridging trust gaps with strategic rapport-building skills.

Mann is the author of the instant New York Times bestseller Operation Pineapple Express, where he led 150 veterans in saving 1,000 Afghan Allies from certain death at the hands of the Taliban using nothing but cell phones and relationships. Mann has since founded Operation Pineapple Express Relief, a 501c3 to help support those affected by the Global War on Terror. Gary Sinise partnered up with Scott to bring his play, Last Out: Elegy of a Green Beret, to stages across the country to heal our Veterans and Families of the Fallen, as well as educate citizens on the personal cost of the longest war in our Nation’s history.

Mann regularly regularly appears on CNN and FOX NEWS. He has testified to the House Foreign Affairs committee on National Security Issues and spoken on leadership, strength, and service on three TEDx stages. He has been welcomed by hosts including American Bakers’ Association, National PTA, Wichita State University Baseball, Tunnel to Towers, EOS, Spartan Race, and many more.

Scott’s next book, Nobody Is Coming to Save You: A Green Beret’s Guide to Getting Big Sh*t Done, will be out this Fall.

Nobody Is Coming to Save You: A Green Beret's Guide to Getting Big Sh*t Done

For years, Scott Mann worked in low-trust, high stakes environments where nobody was coming to save him, his men, or the exhausted majority of Afghans they served. There, he learned that the best way to get big sh*t done and bridge vast divisions is to meet people where they are, not where you want them to be. He calls this approach Rooftop Leadership. Wherever you live, work, or play–in real estate, in corporate sales, in HR, for a community volunteer group, in a non-profit, in politics–the hardest thing to find these days is authentic connection with other people. The social trends and fraying of civil society after more than two years of prolonged isolation from Covid, mass technology, organizational strain, and blinking-red stress levels on our emotional dashboards have taken a toll that those of us in our own exhausted majority are only beginning to understand and appreciate. With inspiring stories about his experiences in the military and candid reflections on civilian life, Scott Mann connects readers to a more ancient, primal aspect of their nature rendered dormant by the modern world. Nobody Is Coming to Save You shows readers how to navigate the Churn that’s dividing us and learn to make new and deeper connections to ourselves, to each other, and to the natural world around us.

Operation Pineapple Express: The Incredible Story of a Group of Americans Who Undertook One Last Mission and Honored a Promise in Afghanistan

An edge-of-your-seat thriller about a group of retired Green Berets who come together to save a former comrade–and 500 other Afghans–being targeted by the Taliban in the chaos of America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. In April 2021, an urgent call was placed from a Special Forces operator serving overseas. The message was clear: Get Nezam out of Afghanistan now. Nezam was part of the Afghan National Army’s first group of American-trained commandos; he passed through Fort Bragg’s legendary Q course and served alongside the US Special Forces for over a decade. But Afghanistan’s government and army were on the edge of collapse, and Nezam was receiving threatening texts from the Taliban. The message reached Nezam’s former commanding officer, retired Lt. Col. Scott Mann, who couldn’t face the idea of losing another soldier in the long War on Terror. Immediately, he sends out an SOS to a group of Afghan vets (Navy SEALs, Green Berets, CIA officers, USAID advisors). They all answer the call for one last mission. Operating out of basements and garages, Task Force Pineapple organizes an escape route for Nezam and gets him into hiding in Taliban-controlled Kabul. After many tense days, he braves the enemy checkpoints and the crowds of thousands blocking the airport gates. He finally makes it through the wire and into the American-held airport thanks to the frantic efforts of the Pineapple express, a relentless Congressional aide, and a US embassy official. Nezam is safe, but calls are coming in from all directions requesting help for other Afghan soldiers, interpreters, and at-risk women and children. Task Force Pineapple widens its scope–and ends up rescuing 500 more Afghans from Kabul in the three chaotic days before the ISIS-K suicide bombing. Operation Pineapple Express is a thrilling, suspenseful tale of service and loyalty amidst the chaos of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Mission America: Straight Talk About Military Transition

Ever since the days of Homer, warriors have faced an epic battle for which many were ill-prepared – coming home after a life of military service. Whether you served three years or thirty, transitioning to civilian life is an Odyssey in its own right. Despite over 40,000 veteran advocacy organizations trying to assist military members, massive corporate hiring programs for veterans, and increased efforts by the Department of Defense, veteran transition is tough stuff – not just for our military service members but their families as well. Many veterans say that transition to civilian life is the biggest obstacle they’ve ever faced. What if it didn’t have to be this way? What if everything you needed for a happy and prosperous transition was already inside you? What if the very warrior ethos forged in the mission-focused environment of military service was the single greatest asset in your kit bag? Mission America combines a no B.S. look at the realities of military transition and an eye-opening perspective on how to leverage the highly relevant warrior attributes you already possess. Retired Green Beret and strategic entrepreneur Scott Mann takes you on a journey where you’ll see that, in order to live the life you’ve so richly earned through your selfless service, there is still one more mission in front of you…MISSION AMERICA.
