Biography
Oswald Rodrigo Pereira is a Polish-Portuguese climber, film director, cinematographer, and public speaker.
He spent 12 years as a television reporter, covering politics, economics, and sports. His career took a pivotal turn when he joined a Polish winter expedition to K2 as a TV correspondent. Inspired by the experience, he left journalism to pursue his passion for storytelling as an independent filmmaker, focusing on the emotional journeys of climbers in the Himalayas.
Over the past seven years, Oswald has participated in ten expeditions, including two winter attempts on K2. He has summited Broad Peak, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga, without supplementary oxygen or the personal support of Sherpas.
During his descent from Broad Peak, he assisted in a rescue operation for a climber who had fallen on the Chinese side of the ridge. In spring 2023, after summiting Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, he and his climbing partner, Bartek Ziemski, took part in the high-altitude rescue of 84-year-old Spanish climber Carlos Soria.
For the past two years, Oswald joined forces with Bartek Ziemski and they have formed an exceptional duo. They climb eight-thousanders in a sports style: Bartek skis down the mountains while Oswald documents their journey on film.
His latest documentary, The Silent Escape, premiered in South Korea in October 2023. It has since been screened in more than 20 countries worldwide, earning awards on both national and international levels.
Oswald’s unique perspective, combining experience as a television reporter with a passion for high-altitude climbing, allows him to tell stories that both inspire and move audiences. His insights on risk management, mental resilience, and survival serve as an inspiration for both business leaders and anyone facing challenges.
