Martin Baily: Economist, Advisor, and Champion of Innovation in Policy

Martin Baily is a leading economist renowned for his expertise in productivity, competitiveness, and U.S. economic policy. He currently serves as Senior Fellow Emeritus in Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution, where he also holds the Bernard L. Schwartz Chair in Economic Policy Development and directs the Initiative on Business and Public Policy. Baily is a Senior Advisor to the McKinsey Global Institute and the Albright Stonebridge Group, and he co-chairs the Financial Regulatory Reform Initiative at the Bipartisan Policy Center

Martin Baily’s distinguished public service includes his appointment as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) under President Bill Clinton from August 1999 to January 2001, during which he was a member of the President’s Cabinet and led the CEA staff. He previously served as one of three members of the CEA from October 1994 to August 1996. His work in government focused on economic policy, financial regulation, and strategies to enhance U.S. growth and innovation.

Baily’s research spans globalization, productivity, competitiveness, Social Security reform, and economic recovery.
