About John Nichol
John Nichol is both an author and a co-author of a range of successful fiction books related to combat and the military, as well as ‘Tornado Down’, co-authored with his pilot John Peters, which tells their story of seven weeks of hell as Iraqi prisoners of war.
Captured on 17 January during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 alongside pilot John Peters, and finally released at the end of the Gulf War in March 1991 – they spent 47 days in captivity in Abu Ghraib prison.
After the Gulf War, he remained on military duty and did tours of duty to both Bosnia and the Falkland Islands as part of the UN Peacekeeping Mission.
Since retiring in 1996 from the RAF, he has written for numerous publications, including the Times, Mail on Sunday and the Observer, as well as reporting on Newsnight, Breakfast and ITN.
